At a time when “postmodernism” seems to be a dominant world view; when interest in traditional religion is falling off; when far too many young people are simply walking away; what could possibly be wrong with getting people excited about “spirituality”?

A spiritual movement swept through the church at the turn of the 1900s.  It looked beautiful on the surface but was exposed to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. It subtly led sincere Christians away from the important teachings and truths of the Bible to embrace an emotional religion that was based in mysticism. Eventually, people realized what was happening, but for some, it was too late and they were too far away to turn back.

A warning was left for future generations, like a helpful buoy in the ocean, to watch out for these same mistakes packaged in a new way. This book is a guide that helps us understand these sneaky dangers and shows us how to avoid making the same mistakes happening in the church around us today. After all, if we don't learn from our history we are doomed to repeat it.

E. G. White wrote of a dream she had in the night, a ship in the fog, and an iceberg in the way. The vessel was damaged, but it survived the encounter because the Captain’s command was obeyed. The early church survived her crisis, too, though at the cost of her right arm and the imposition of “the worst evil.” Yet, she assured us that the story wasn’t over.

For nearly a century, the idea that the Church would ever again be troubled and tempted by pantheism strained credulity. It seemed absurd, unbelievable, ridiculous. Nevertheless, the Lord said another test was coming.
